Jersey Wooly Character

Jersey Woolies are famously gentle, friendly, and calm. They rarely bite or scratch, making them ideal for children and first-time rabbit owners. Many are content to sit on laps and enjoy cuddles.

Jersey Wooly Appearance

This breed has a compact, blocky body with short, upright ears and a wooly coat resembling that of an angora, though it's shorter and easier to manage. They typically weigh around 2.5 to 3.5 pounds, and come in a wide range of colours.

Conditions which affect this breed

Generally hardy, Jersey Woolies can live 7 - 10 years with proper care. Common issues include dental problems and wool block (a digestive issue from ingesting fur while grooming). Regular grooming and a high-fibre diet help prevent complications.

Weird Fact...

Despite their long, fluffy coat, Jersey Woolies shed less than you'd expect and often require less grooming than other wool breeds. Still, during shedding seasons, they can produce enough fluff to knit a small scarf — if you’re into rabbit fibre crafts!

Jersey Wooly History

The breed was developed in the 1980s by breeder Bonnie Seeley in New Jersey (hence the name). She crossed a Netherland Dwarf with a French Angora to create a rabbit with a wooly coat and a friendly, compact form. It was officially recognized by the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association) in 1988.
